Together with local guides from Sea Kayak Italy we will guide you on an expedition around the island of Elba in Italy. We will camp outdoors during this trip.

The paddling begins 20 June 09:00. But we will meet up for a briefing 19 June after everyone has arrived in Italy.

The paddling ends on June 24 around 17:00. We recommend you fly out on June 25.

We can recommend some local hotels for your stay June 19-20 and 24-25. There is a short two minute walk from these hotels to our Italian partner.

For the flight, we recommend that you book a flight to Pisa, then you will take the train to Piombino Marittima, the ferry to Portoferraio and finally the bus number 116 to Marciana Marina.

About the expedition:

We depart from Marciana Marina on Tuesday morning and return on
Saturday afternoon. The meeting point is around 9 am on the day of departure, at the Sea Kayak Italy headquarters in Marciana Marina (Elba Island).

Load the kayaks with your personal luggage and supplies of food and water, the adventure begins! During the tour you can swim in transparent waters, rest in coves accessible only from the sea, improve your sea kayaking techniques, experience the magic of spending the nights in a tent.

Before departure, the guide will do the briefing, defining the daily itinerary and stops, based on the weather conditions and the group.

A normal day lasts about 4-6 hours in the kayak, or about 20 km. We will stop at small local villages on the way. You will feel immersed in the rich history of the island. You will move between prehistory, Etruscans and medieval villages. Napoleon spent almost 11 months on the island as emperor. Many rocks and beaches around which you will paddle are still linked to sea legends, pirates and shipwrecks. Paddling near the Ogliera rock we will find ourselves right above Elviscot's shipwreck.

What to bring:
- sleeping bag (small size), sleeping mat
- rock shoes (or old sneakers)
- swimsuits and t-shirts for sailing, trousers and t-shirt for the evening
- personal hygiene kit, towel
- personal and reusable plate, glass, cutlery and water bottle,
- head torch
- sunglasses, hat, sunscreen
- waterproof bag for electronic devices
- power bank for charging your electronic devices
- recommended: mask and snorkel
- Food

Included in the price:
- Fiberglass (no-plastic) sea kayaks complete with the necessary
equipment (paddle, spray-deck, life jacket, waterproof bag, route map etc.)
- Tent (1/2/3 places)
- Two guides, one Italian and one Norwegian

Experience required:

We require that you have passed a 3 star sea kayak course (ISKGA Fundamentals III, teknikkurs from NPF, 3 star BCU or equivalent). Alternatively you must have sufficient experience to paddle in 3 star conditions (1,25 meter waves, 8 m/s wind). Furthermore you must know how to land a sea kayak in surf so some surfing experience will be essential. There may be surf conditions on our landing beaches and surf zones are relatively high risk areas.

We also ask that you are a contributing member of the group. We need all the members of the group to contribute where they can, whether at sea or on land. We will be isolated and it’s therefore important that everyone assist each other whenever possible.

Medical / health issues:
If you have any health issues affecting yourself or the group, please let us know in advance. You are responsible for qualifying yourself fit and healthy enough to participate.

The average temperature in Elba is 22 degress Celcius in June.

Insurance:
Travel insurance is always recommended. You are responsible for having the appropriate accident and travel insurance for sea kayaking on a remote coastline for several days. Call your insurance agency if in doubt. We recommend booking a flight which includes cancellation insurance.
